Phase of Struggle: Wanted to Become a Cricketer, Illness Shattered Hopes
Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh was born on 12 December 1981. During childhood, he was a national-level skating player. However, because of his father’s determination, he eventually entered the world of cricket.
When Yuvraj was 14 years old, his parents got divorced. In an interview, he shared that living in a house filled with conflicts was difficult, and he himself suggested that his parents separate.
During the 2011 World Cup, he was diagnosed with lung cancer. He suffered from unbearable pain and often coughed up blood. At one point, it seemed as if all hopes in life were fading away. However, after undergoing treatment in America for a year, Yuvraj defeated cancer and made a successful comeback.
After recovering, he scored a brilliant 150 runs against England in Cuttack. Although his performances were never quite the same as before, he retired from international cricket in 2019.
Ups and Downs: Dropped from the Team, Yet Created the Record of 6 Sixes in 6 Balls
In 2000, Yuvraj made his debut in the KnockOut Trophy. In the same year, due to poor performances against Zimbabwe, he was dropped from the team.
In 2007, he played a historic innings against England by hitting 6 sixes in 6 balls. However, during the 2010 Asia Cup, he once again failed to secure a place in the team.
Success: Helping Cancer Patients and Becoming a Successful Coach
Yuvraj Singh is remembered in the cricket world not only as a destructive batsman but also as an inspiring example of courage and determination in overcoming life’s toughest challenges.
Currently, he is also in discussions for becoming the ambassador of Saudi Arabia’s T20 league. He has received the Arjuna Award and the Padma Shri.
Yuvraj was the Player of the Tournament in the 2011 Cricket World Cup. He has also mentored players like Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, and Rishabh Pant.
Through his organization YouWeCan Foundation, he has helped hundreds of underprivileged cancer patients.
